Art Cinema @ The Sayle

Every Friday at 7.30

Art cinema is something distinctly different from main-stream cinema, although often the boundaries are blurred. This is usually because a Hollywood director will see something in an original movie and copy it. Nothing much we haven’t seen already comes out of Hollywood!

The idea behind art cinema at the Sayle is to show films about art, films which are considered to be art, films about film makers or artists, painters and sculptors. Some of the films we have shown at the Sayle are by directors such as Guy Maddin, David Lynch, David Mamet, Peter Greenaway, Warner Herzog, Leni Riefenstahl, Quay brothers, Jiri Trnka. We have also shown documentaries about photographers such as Gregory Crewdson, Vivian Maier, Cindy Sherman and Louise Bourgeois plus film noir, animation, claymation, puppets stop motion and various indie film-makers.

Doors open at 7.00pm so come along this friday if you truly are a film geek. It’s warm, comfortable, and there are always inciteful and mind-blowing films to view and review.
