Display of postal history paraphernalia & special edition coin collections celebrating 175 years of postal history on the Isle of Man.
Isle of Man Post Office in collaboration with Stanley Gibbons has produced and released a set of stamps that mark the 175th Anniversary of the Penny Black, the world’s first adhesive posting stamp used in the public postal system.
The exhibition will run from 6 – 26th of May 2015 at the Gallery and will feature a range of original artworks from Isle of Man Post Office archive items, many of which have never been seen publicly before. Included within this are artworks from Manx masters – Tony Onley, Norman Sayle, John Nicholson, Coleen Corlett as well as commercial big hitters such as Paul Smith with the Olympic issue, bookended with a rare, original Penny Black stamp and new release marking the 175th Anniversary.
The original Penny Black stamp is important to the Post Office in a number of ways; its launch marked the birth of the modern British postal system which is now used around the world.
